I can’t believe it’s March already. I tried to ride my bike yesterday, but it was still too cold for me to make it up to HU. The last month has been busy, accompanying myriad Howard University recitals with amazing peers of mine, like Josh Walker and Brent Birckhead (March 6th!).
In the midst of all this schooling, I am thrilled to announce that I have been selected for the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program at the Kennedy Center. The program is a 2-week residency designed for jazz musicians under 30, with an emphasis on original compositions. I had a great time recording my audition tunes this past fall with Karine Chapdelaine and Dave McDonald, so I’m glad this worked out for me, as well as my Howard/DC-ites and  Nate Jolley, John Kocur, and Christie Dashiell.

I know this is going to be a great experience, and I’m looking forward to meeting some rowdy jazz kids. The program runs March 15-28th with performances at the Kennedy Center and venues on the east coast, so I will put the dates on my calendar soon.
